22 Player Private Poker Tournament (Part I)
Submitted on September 3, 2007 by Kevin
I was putzing around the house yesterday wondering what I could do to get some people together for a small stakes live poker tournament. Then I remembered that there is some software that I have used before to build groups or networks. So I pulled up the website called Meetup.com and BINGO! A perfect piece of organizational software that is meant to get people together. And what better activity for battling wits then a friendly poker game. I decided that in order to really show people that I am serious about organizing a game, I booked an event at Cash Casino on October 30, 2007 @ 7:30 and I was lucky enough to be able to reserve 2 tables for this private game.
Most tournament players know that there is already a nightly 7:30pm tournament going on every day, but the Casino is able to oblige us with 2 tables and it makes sense that we will start at the same time in order to make use of the same tournament clock. It just stands to reason that it would be wise to make this private game as simple as possible so the staff don't have to go to great lengths to accommodate us.
So less than 2 days after setting up this software and inviting a few people that I know to the game, there is already 6 people pre-registered to play, even though the tournament is nearly 2 months away. It will be interesting to see how much interest there will be over the next few weeks. For people that have little or no experience it will be a cheap night out to learn the ropes ~ only $30. Instead of facing 60 to 100 people in the regular nightly tournament, those on the CPN list will only have to face a maximum of 22 players. It just makes things a little more comfortable for the newer players.
I've been back and forth for many months on keeping this website alive and so I managed to find some new energy to organize something. I deal poker for a living but sometimes its nice to be able to relax and be a part of the action instead of working all the time. I'll also take this opportunity to write something on this blog about the success of this event, as small as it may be, and use it as a learning experience. If it turns out well, then I will book another one for the following month and go from there. If the interest is not there, then I may simply host some smaller games at my house. They would be just as fun and entertaining as any event in a casino.
Anyone who is the least bit interested in participating can use the Live Games link at the top of this page which will direct you to the message board and registration software.
